Rusty Rims vs Nice Touch Write Up by Lebowski.

Rusty Rims v Nice Touch
Saturday 5th March 11.30am Newington

Game 1:
1 – 5
Scorers: Josh 2, Cameron 3 + (OG)

Game 2:
0 – 5
Scorers: Josh 4, James 1

Game 3:
2 – 5
Scorers: Jonie 1, Nick 1, Josh 2, Cam 3

Sorry, no write up, but I did give away a few prizes.

Worst Star Trek quote used in a game:
Goes to Cameron, who yells “Make it so” after passing to Josh in front of goal.

Best chatback to a ref:
Goes to James, after I warned him to hook, not hack. ‘”I’m not arguing, I’m just offended you would say that to me”

Best Goals:
Jonie for smashing in a goal from the half way line to equalise scores at 2 – 2 in the last game.
Also Cameron, for smashing the ball out of his goal, only to have it deflect of Josh’s wheel and roll back for an own goal, tie-ing the scores at 1 – 1 after 2 minutes of the first game.

The London League Update

Nice Touch enter the top bracket of the London League Playoffs after finishing the first round of fixtures in the top six.

Greif Masters 2011 – Feb 4th to 6th

Greif Masters is going to be a bench minor this year. 10 players per team, national squads (except we get a London team and an England team, and Karlsruhe get a team because they’re hosting) and 30 minute games.

This is the first hardcourt bike polo international team tournament! They sneaked the idea from London but still glad it’s happening. Hopefully we make the draft.

Menottistas

César Luis Menotti redefined stylish, forward-thinking and attacking Argentine football. He took Argentina to their first World Cup win in 1978 having left Maradonna out of the squad. He was also something of a philosopher and claimed that his free and creative style of football offered a reminder of the free and creative Argentina that existed before the governing military junta. He also said:

A team is above all an idea. More that that, it is a commitment to a clear set of convictions used to defend the idea.

To those who say that all that matters is winning, I warn them that someone always wins. Therefore, in a 30-team championship, there are 29 teams that must ask themselves: what did I leave at the club, what did I bring to my players, what possibility of growth did I give them?

I start from the premise that football is efficacy and I play to win. But I don’t give in to tactical reasoning as the only way to win, rather I believe that efficacy is not divorced from beauty.
